Never heard of this game but it seems kind of interesting. Anyone have any thought about it?

Been waiting for this for a while... It's only $2.99. I might get it tonight.

I played it a ton when it first came out in 2008 and really loved it, especially the atmosphere.
It's not a traditional shmup though, Stages take place in a box in which you can freely move, while enemys spawn all over the place. On the bottom is minimap so you know whats going on.
There is a decent variety of shoot types and there is a leveling system. For example after a stage you can increase your speed or your shield with your points.

I would recommend this only if you really love danmaku games though. The game, especially in later stages, gets absolutley fucking ridiculous.

DANMAKU UNLIMITED 3 is about to hit STEAM Greenlight folks!!! Show your support for this amazing shooter. The vine footage shows a big improvement in particle effects. Especially with bullet grazing. They are also bringing back BLANKFIELD to do the soundtrack. The second game got my vote for best Shmup AND soundtrack of 2013. Get Hype!!!

Here are some off-screen shots of the game:

Here's a clip of it in motion showing off hit, grazing, and explosion particles.

It amazes me that these guys have to go through the Greenlight process again after producing such a fun shooter last time. I will buy this one at full price just like their last game.

On top of Danmaku Unlimited 3 we've also got an updated version of Valkyrius being released on Steam soon.

From developer:

Hey everyone! I've been upgrading and improving parts of this game in preparation for its Steam release. Character artwork has been vastly improved thanks to a great artist I've been working with. I'm also looking to integrate it with various Steam features. This started out as a personal project so it's great to see it come this far. We're currently gunning for this Fall.

How would they handle a console port considering they only support 1 screen? Just have a dedication scale button like Darius 2 on Saturn? Or maybe have a link mode for 2 consoles?

If it happens, and that's a big if, I presume scaling it, or even add black borders. It is one reason i wanted this one on PC, for the dual screen option.

Doesn't PS3 Caladrius have the updates made for the arcade release?

Wasn't 360 supposed to get those updates? Does it have them now?

I've been passing on the game since footage of the initial 360 release was pretty unappealing, but if it's significantly improved and cheap I could take the risk.

Great to see GoD localization working out for the rest of the region-locked 360 shmups library.

It would be great if Aksys got in on that and finally brought over Castle of Shikigami III on 360.

Is Crimson Clover decent?

Looked nice from the videos I've watched.

As a self proclaimed STG connoisseur, I'd say Crimzon Clover would probably be in my top 5 STG list.

It's a steal for $9.99.

Edit:

Ok, I might have been pushing it when I said it was in my top 5. Top 10 is more likely.

There are alot of random and obscure PSX STG titles I have never heard of ever I am learning about recently. And a lot of games I thought were Saturn exclusive and often times cheaper on the PSX (although I'm sure some of the games are better on Saturn? If someone can clarify);

ARCADE GEARS - Image Fight/X-Multiply
X2 - No Relief/Project-X2
Wolf Fang
PHILOSOMA
Strikers 1945
Toaplan Shooting Battle 1 (Super expensive)
META-PH-LIST μ.X.2297/METAPHLIST
Night Raid
Gaia Seed

Can anyone shine a light on these?

Image Fight is an Irem shooter, it's prety good (but a bit on the old side, it's from 1988)
Wolf Fang is a Data East shmup, it's average imho
Philosoma is a terrible shmup that'S only famous because of its eye candy
Strikers 1945 is a Psykio shooter and is very good
Taoplan Shooting Battle is a compilation of various old Taoplan shmups. Taoplan making great shmups, it's highly recommanded if you like old style ones.
Metaphlist is a weird experimental shooter with a lockon ability (like Raystorm).
Night Raid is an amazing Takumik shooter (of Mars Matrix fame)
Gaia Seed is a fun shooter in the Thunder Force vein (but not as good as 3 or 4). The music's nice though.

If you're looking at obscure PSX shooters on JP PSN. Check out Harmful Park as well.

It's a bit slow-paced but still fun Cute 'em Up

Zanac X Zanac is fantastic (not on the list but I always have to give love)

Fair warning, Image Fight is harder than balls.
Wolf Fang is more of a mech shooter. You have limited vertical movement. Also when your mech is destroyed you have to hop around as the pilot until you snag a replacement.
IMO Gaia Seed is trash.

Fair warning, Image Fight is harder than balls.
Game creators like Iuchi (Treasure/Grev/M2) and Itagaki (Team Ninja/Valhalla) have stated in interviews that Image Fight had a big impact on how they approach game design. As such, it must be an important title for game literacy, but I can't play it for shit, lol. It's way too hard for me haha.

Oh Axelay, how I was so fond of thee. Along with U.N. Squadron and RType 3 on the SNES.

I hate myself a little that I did not play Gradius V on the PS2. Is it on the PSN store at all by chance?

Seraphis Cain

In the US, yep. Just went up recently. Not sure about Europe, but Japan obviously has it too.
